ELIGIBILITY
All Texas communities are eligible to apply, not just KTB affiliates. One community may not have more than one GCAA entry. See the definitions below to see what constitutes as a "community" and a "program". If cities and counties apply as separate communities, shared program information may not be duplicated.
Beginning with first place GCAA winners in 2020, winners will not be eligible to place in GCAA again for the following four years (this was previously three years). For example, first place GCAA winners in 2020 will not be able to achieve first, second or third place until 2025. However, all first place winners from 2016-2019 are still eligible to place three full years after their win. See the chart below as a reference.
Winning Year | Eligible Again |
2018 | 2022 |
2019 | 2023 |
2020 | 2025 |
2021 | 2026 |
2022 | 2027 |
APPLICATION DEFINITIONS:
Community – A community is defined as a region or regions with shared or adjoining boundaries whose beautification and litter abatement programs are administered by common groups within that community’s geographic boundaries (i.e. local affiliates, city departments, garden clubs, schools, organizations etc.).
Program – Programs are defined as any projects, activities, and/or initiatives within a community’s geographic boundaries that address goals stated in the seven topic areas of the GCAA. If cities and counties apply as separate communities, shared program information may not be duplicated.
JUDGING
Each award application will be judged by a panel of civic, business and/or government representatives. All decisions of KTB will be final. The maximum score of an application is 100 points (90 possible points for the Executive Summary and 10 possible points for the program portfolio). Points will be deducted if guidelines are not met. Applications received after the deadline will not be submitted for judging and will not be eligible for either the Award of Excellence or Sustained Excellence.
